About Palm Tocotrienols


Palm Tocotrienols could protect your brain cells and reduce stroke damages

A research study published in the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism in year 2011 showed that Palm tocotrienols exert the powerful benefits of neuroprotection against the damage to brain cells in stroke induced canine-model. This study was led by Professor Chandan K. Sen from Ohio State University. The animal studies were divided into 2 groups - first group received 200 milligrams of palm tocotrienols twice daily and a placebo was fed with edible palm oil for ten weeks prior to stroke induction. Canine that received palm tocotrienols experienced lesser brain damage, lesser loss of neural connections and has better blood flow to the affected area (from collateral vessels) compared with those that did not receive palm tocotrienols (placebo). This study has uncovered that palm tocotrienols helps to prevent brain cell death in the event of stroke.

In human study, published in a renown Stroke journal led by Professor Dr. Yuen Kah Hay states that palm tocotrienols showed promising results in reducing the brain cells damages through halting the growth of brain lesions (white matter lesions) which could be use as a strong predictor for stroke.

Palm Tocotrienols helps to prevent, delay and reverse dementia diseases

Dementia happens due to many factors when there is a formation of damaged tissues in your brain also known as white matter lesions and will increase your risks for stroke. White matter lesions are damaged areas of the brain that contribute to dementia, stroke, and Alzheimer’s. This damaged tissue will block the brain-signal traffic and therefore, reduces the brain functions.

Scientists at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), in Malaysia, conducted a 2 years’ investigation on 121 volunteers (with cardiovascular risk factors) that has white matter lesions.

In this study, two groups were selected randomly — one group was given 200 mg mixed palm tocotrienols extracted from palm oil and the other was given a placebo.

After the two-years study, the placebo group showed an increase in white matter lesions. However, the group that took the 200 mg mixed palm tocotrienols does not show any sign of new formation white matter lesions. This study conclude that consuming palm tocotrienols helps to reduce the progression of white matter lesions formation, as it may exert neuroprotective benefits.
